At the end of Queen Street, a stone's throw from the Canal, Kithain can find Frostleaf—but everybody calls it Yan's. While ostensibly a knight's noble holding, Lady Jenwy ap Daireann recognized long ago that she could best show her House's propensity for hospitality by surrendering the day-to-day operation to Yan, the boggan who runs the skateshop at the entrance.

Yan's is the perfect place to have your skates sharpened before going out onto the Rideau Canal in the winter and drink rich cocoa when you finally return, chilled and exhausted. Hockey sticks, goalie pads, and memorabilia from various hockey teams from around the world adorn the walls in the winter; in summer, skateboards and the like take up most of the sales space. Old-school chalet meets skateboard punk at Yan's, and it somehow all works out. Anyone who comes in with broken equipment can get it repaired suspiciously quickly—assuming they're kind.

Frostleaf is part of Lady Serena's baronetcy of Ottawa. While it's a noble holding, the majority of the Kithain who spend time there are commoners—and that's just how Lady Jenwy likes it. Even though Yan himself may hold on to the calmness of the past, Jenwy has a somewhat exuberant youthful spirit (and a killer kickflip to match). Kithain find excitement and chaos by following the young sidhe, knowing that stability and calm can be found at the end of the day with Yan. While there's some light-hearted banter between residents who fall closer to one side or the other, everyone gets along. Mostly.

There's some exasperation to Jenwy's refusal to settle down and represent the nobility well, but there's just so much out there. Her obvious popularity with commoners is seen as an asset to Daireann, though, so Serena has learned to tolerate her with a hidden smile.

Frostleaf's Aspect is outreach and inspiration to the community through sport and adventure.

Rooms[]

Yan's shop is decently sized. There's always equipment for both winter and summer sports for sale, though he does rotate which has priority depending on the season.

  • The Pro Shop is Yan's workshop. While a lot of the equipment here is for repairing and adjusting sports equipment, there's some woodworking material here, too.
  • The Park is a small indoor skatepark located behind the Pro Shop. Mortals are only allowed here during store opening hours or during special events.
  • Underneath Yan's is the freehold proper; it opens up to the Crystalline Hall, a relatively large space designed for entertaining. A crystal banquet table stretches through the middle of the room; various trophies, photographs, drawings, and the like line the halls, showing the adventures of past and present freehold members.
  • The Crease is located off the Crystalline Hall. This is a much more laid-back space for relaxing. It's stuffed with comfortable couches with seemingly endless pillows, a ball pit, and Ottawa's largest video game collection. Mini-fridges, liquor cabinets, and snack pantries galore.
  • The Pond is a backyard-sized skating rink that can turn into a heated pool at the touch of a button. Surrounding the Pond are a few very comfortable arm chairs. Someone rigged up a projector, so it's also a decent place to watch movies.
  • Jenwy has a private office in the basement, along with her own private quarters. There are rooms for each of the other freehold regulars, too.
